The FCC Wants to Take Away Your Right to Say No — Here’s What That Means

My name is Claire Sookman, and I am a 68-year-old woman living in Arizona.

Before electromagnetic hypersensitivity took over my life,
I was alive.

I traveled three times a year.
I went to plays, concerts, dinners, and movies.
I could walk into any home, any building, any city without fear.
Now, everywhere I go, I am fearful. There is no safe haven for me.
Everywhere you turn, there are 5G towers.

I had a future.
I had joy.
I had a life.
And then, piece by piece, it all collapsed.

At my worst, I lived in the dark — with every breaker shut off, one flashlight, and a single burner to cook on.
I didn’t know if I would survive.
Everything I knew was taken from me.

Imagine feeling sick — constantly — with:
• Tachycardia
• Debilitating brain fog so intense I often can't think clearly
• Passing out
• Ringing in my ears that never stops

Make no mistake:
I live with a disability that affects every part of my life.

Even in doctors’ offices — places that should provide care and safety — I have been dismissed and humiliated.

At a well-known medical facility in Arizona, I was asked to leave — in front of a full waiting room — because I sasked that phones and smartwatches be turned off for five minutes during a blood draw.
They refused.
And I was told never to return.

Imagine being thrown out of a medical facility because your illness is inconvenient.
Imagine losing family because they don’t believe you.
Imagine not being able to get on a plane, enter a store, or sit in a restaurant — because your body physically breaks down from environmental exposure.
Imagine sitting alone in silence, day after day, while the world moves on without you.

This is what electromagnetic sensitivity has taken from me — and from thousands of others.

And now, tech companies are pushing legislation — H.R. 2289 and FCC Docket 25-276 — that would allow them to install towers and antennas anywhere, with:

  • No local input

  • No environmental review

  • No community consent

If these policies pass, the people most harmed will be those with the least power to protect themselves.

Children, whose nervous systems and sleep cycles are still developing, are already struggling with anxiety, sleeplessness, and mood instability. Placing wireless infrastructure in front of schools risks making these problems worse.

Pregnant women and their unborn children deserve a safe environment that supports healthy development — not constant, unavoidable exposures they cannot escape.

Families living near newly installed towers may be forced to relocate — not because they want to, but because their bodies cannot tolerate the stress of this radiation.
And when they try to find refuge, they may discover that there is nowhere left to go.

We cannot ignore the emotional cost of this.

When people lose their homes, their health, their communities, and their sense of safety — mental health suffers deeply.
The despair that comes from having no safe place to exist is profound.

And all of this is happening because large technology and telecom corporations want unrestricted access to our neighborhoods — with no accountability and no liability — regardless of the human cost.

Not for safety.
But only for profit.

They want to silence local control so they can expand without resistance —
And you have the power to stop them.

I am not a conspiracy theorist.
I am not anti-technology.
I am a human being who has already lost more than anyone should be asked to endure.

I am a bestselling author on this subject.
I run a company called Safe Kids, Strong Moms, whose mission is to protect children from wireless harm.
I am an advocate, a credible source, and a woman trying to survive in an increasingly unsafe world.

And if this legislation passes — it will become impossible.

Please understand what your vote truly means:

It means the difference between whether I — and thousands like me — can remain in our homes,
or be forced to flee the last place where we feel marginally safe.

It means the difference between whether we can keep going,
or be pushed into lives so restricted, so isolating, that they are no longer livable.

This is not abstract.
This is not political.
This is not theoretical.

This is real.
This is happening now.
And it is affecting far more people than you know.

I am not the only one.

There are thousands across this country — people with electromagnetic sensitivity, chemical sensitivity, chronic illness —
who are being forced into the shadows.
Who have lost their health, their families, their careers, and their ability to exist in public.

Do not be complicit in our erasure.
Do not surrender your constituents' right to shape their communities.
Do not let corporate power override human life.

Vote NO on H.R. 2289.

Reject FCC Docket 25-276.

Take action now — because tech companies will not protect us. You must.

Please —
Do not take away local control.
Do not take away the ability of communities to protect their own people.
